The Right Termite Control Products Matter the Most

Termites

Once you find out that your home has been infested with termites, you must work quickly. The longer that the termites live in your home, the more damage they will cause. Of course, acting quickly should not mean you choose the first pest control company that you come across. Instead, you need to take the time to choose a company that uses a quality product to destroy the termites in your home. Without the right product, the termites could survive and your house could suffer from extensive damage.

There are two main products that should be in the arsenal used by the company that you choose: Termidor and Sentricon. For you to better understand why these products are the best, you need to learn a little more about them.

Termidor: The Barrier Termite Treatment

Termidor is considered a barrier treatment because of the way it works. This treatment is largely used to protect a home from the pests, but it can be used to kill the bugs as well. Here are some of the things that Termidor can do.

  • Create a protective barrier around the home to properly protect from termites.
  • Pass on the pesticide from one termite to the next so even those who never came in contact with the barrier can be eliminated.
  • Does not work as a repellent that chases away termites. Instead, it allows the termites to walk through the barrier without knowing they are walking through poison.

Termidor can be placed in a barrier around a home or it can even be injected into the internal structure of the home to protect it from termites or to kill current infestations.

Sentricon: The Baiting Termite Treatment

With this system, small, bait stations are placed logistically around the home. They look like small, plastic disks from the surface, but they include spikes underneath them that are baited with treated cellulose (wood). The Sentricon system can be used to protect a home from termites, but it also can kill termite colonies quickly. This is why:

Termite feeders will only go a short distance from the home and they will take digested wood or cellulose to the rest of the colony. When the termites go to the bait, they will take that baited wood back to their colony and therefore infect all of the termites. The treatment used in the Sentricon stations will work as a growth deterrent and will effectively kill off the whole termite colony before it can do damage to the home that the system is protecting.

Sentricon is considered to be an environmentally friendly method of dealing with termites in a home or protecting a home from new termite infestations.  It does not release any type of toxin or poison into the ground or in your home, so your family and pets will be completely safe around the system.

Choosing the Company

The most important thing to remember when you have a termite infestation is that you need to choose the right termite control company. You will want to look for a company that provides termite treatment with Sentricon or Termidor, as these two methods will be the most effective in treatment, protection, and prevention.

If you discover that you have termites, then you will want to work fast so that the bugs cannot do thousands of dollars in damage to your home. Choose a company that uses the best products to deal with the termite problem in your home. The better the product, the more quickly the termites can be controlled and removed so that they will cause no further damage.

How to Eliminate Rodents From Around the Home

Rodents

A lot of households have had the unpleasant experience of rodents living and breeding in their roofs, kitchen cupboards and gardens. They’re unhygienic, carry disease and are an unwelcome presence in every home. In this post I will describe the enemy, its habitat, biology and give handy hints on ways to eliminate them from your home and ensure they don’t return.

Description

The most commonly found rodent pests in Australia are the house mice (weighing approx. 20g); roof rats (260g); and Norway or sewer rats (450g). They are mammals, which means they are warm-bodied, covered in fur, give birth to live young and lactate. Their teeth grow constantly, so in order to keep them sharp and at a manageable length they must continually gnaw on things like wood. Rodents are responsible for spreading over 35 diseases worldwide, which can be transmitted to humans both directly and indirectly through insects and food contamination.

Habitat

Rodents live in nests they build in warm, sheltered locations such as wall cavities, cupboards, ceilings and under floors. Their nests are constructed with materials they collect, such scraps of fabric, paper, hair and feathers. Rodents typically build their nests within meters of food sources, and only leave their nest in search of food. They are nocturnal so most of their activity is at night.

Biology

Mice generally have 5 to 10 litters of 10-12 young a year, reach full maturity in 7 weeks and can live for up to approximately 12 months. Rats on the other hand can have up to 14 litters of 10 young a year, reach maturity in 5 weeks and can live for up to 3 years.

Rodents can jump 30cm vertically, squeeze through 6mm openings and are highly adept climbers. They have poor eyesight but compensate for this with a keen sense of hearing, highly developed taste and touch senses.

What You Can Do To Limit Infestation

Because rodents tend to live close to food sources, knowing where they are likely to go to eat is key to controlling them in your home.

  • Clean up food spills and sweep kitchen floors daily.
  • Clear fallen fruit and nuts from your yard.
  • Remove pet dishes and leftovers after they have finished eating.
  • Remove animal waste as soon as possible.
  • Secure bathroom and kitchen vents.
  • Clean up yard waste that could act as a shelter.
  • Store firewood well off the ground.
  • Repair leaks and holes in the sewer system.
  • Trim dead fronds from palm trees.
  • Promptly remove dead or trapped rodents
  • Place bird food in feeders.
  • Flooring in aviaries should be concrete and cleaned regularly.
  • Avoid touching rodent pests.

If you continue to have problems with rodents in your home after trying these suggestions, there are a number of professional solutions that can help. Call your local pest control expert and they will be able to provide you with more information.

Bulwark Pest Control Reviews On Angie’s List

Bulwark Exterminating- Phoenix, along with all of Bulwark’s other branches, consistently receive exceptional customer reviews on Angie’s List. Here are just a few given by customers who received pest control services last year:

We like Bulwark Exterminating. They are very through and listen to what I have to say. They take care of the problem. They most recently came out and put down a granular treatment to get rid of ants. They will also spray inside or outside for bugs. They set traps by the doors. If we have scorpions they will do something for them as well. They will not charge more for the extra treatments. They give you a window frame for time and usually they come right in the middle of the time frame.

Eric was the service man and he did a great job. He explained the process and chemicals to me and how they worked. He was very thorough and professional. Bulwark has a guarantee which is one reason I decided to give them a try. Also they promise to come re-spray if I request. It was an initial visit and the service man Eric sprayed powder behind electrical outlet panels in all the rooms and treated the doorways, windows and water pipes where bugs usually like to enter. He sprayed all over the yard by the house and fences.

Responded to a deal on Angie’s List and very glad I did. The technician was right on time, very professional and explained everything he did. He wore booties inside my home which impressed me. He sprayed inside and out as well as putting deterrents under the dishwasher and refrigerator, which I would never have thought of. I will definitely continue using this company for maintenance service for my pest control. I will also recommend them to everyone. I am very happy with the professionalism of the technician. I will have to wait and see if the pests we are trying to keep at bay actually do stay away.
